Leukemia Lymphoma Society Student of the Year Campaign
Starting January 24th- March 16th I will be a participant in this campaign. It is a 7-week time period where I raise money and collect donations for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. This money will go towards research and helping those who have blood borne diseases.
Here is a little back story of how I got involved with this campaign. Back in September a friend of mine texted me asking if I would like to participate in this campaign. I had no idea what it was, but I was intrigued. I looked more into what it is and instantly had this feeling of hope and determination. I knew I had to do this and I was determined to raise as much money as I possibly could. The feeling of hope overwhelmed me and warmed my heart and soul. Blood cancers are the third leading cancer killer of Americans. Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and every 9 minutes someone dies from one. I wanted to do everything in my power to decrease these numbers. I have a strong hope that one day the Leukemia Lymphoma Society will not have to exist anymore because blood borne disease will be gone COMPLETELY. The campaign managers set a goal for each participant to raise $10,000.
After I officially signed up for the campaign I started doing lots of research. With this research it allowed many thoughts to ponder my mind. I realized that many children are diagnosed with blood borne diseases, but if they are sick and in chemo they cannot go to school. These strong little beings are fighting for their lives. They do not have time to worry and stress about school. Then I thought the question of how do they receive schooling or an education? With this thought I completed more research and learned that for every dollar you donate 77.26% goes to mission. This includes research, patient services, and advocacy. These patient services include financial support and EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES. These educational resources are very scarce for children in the hospital. I am making it my mission to help these children get the education they need. Everyone deserves an education. They should at least have the opportunity.
For all of this to happen, I NEED YOUR HELP. Each donation is a vote, a vote to completely rid blood cancers off the face of the Earth. Goin me in this fight against blood borne diseases, with you we ca destroy them once and for all, and help grow the educational resources.

The next portion of my project I wanted to form infographics that I could post on my social media to spread the word of my campaign. I decided to make a 45 second video that included statistics and the honored hero Riley.
This video took me awhile. I wanted to make in entertaining, but informative. I also wanted to keep people intrigued. I created a video and showed it to my class. They gave me very helpful feedback. With this feedback I went and redesigned the video.
Over the weekend I posted it on my Facebook. I got various likes and shares, a few people even donated because of it!
So far this project has taught me many things. The first one is, it is very hard to raise money sometimes. It is hard to convince and entice people to donate. But with this experience I am very grateful for this opportunity.
I finished this project in March. I was incredibly blessed to even have had an opportunity like this. It was an awesome experience that I am so happy I encountered. I will always hold this campaign and organization very close to my heart.
I learned many things from this campaign. It is difficult to get people to donate money. I did not for-see this being an issue, but it was. I learned the value of a dollar and I have a great respect for it more than ever before.
